Single mothers don't have it easy. Raising families, providing ample love for your children, and handling the financial strain of child-rearing can make anyone's head spin. Fortunately, single mothers who are in need of financial help have some opportunities at their fingertips.

Financial Aid or Scholarships

For many single mothers, going back to school seems unattainable. But there are dozens of grants, scholarships,loans and grants available to single mothers who are looking to go back and get a college education. Whether you want to go back full time, or part time while you stay home with your children, going back to get a degree is a definite possibility. Call local colleges in your area to meet with a financial aid specialist who can guide you in finding the programs you most qualify for.

Housing Grants

Many cities and townships offer housing grants to eligible families. Grants can be special housing that's discounted for mothers who can't afford otherwise, or they can help pay the rent or mortgage on your current home.

WIC

The federally funded Woman, Infant, Children program is an excellent resource for single parents. The goal of this program is support low-income parents with nutritional foods and formula (for babies) during the first five years of life. 

WIC offers juices, bread, dairy products, peanut butter and other nutritional items for single mothers who need help providing their children with healthy meals.

Utility Help

With many mothers living in cold winter climates, staying warm can be a pricey concern. Several programs offer assistance with heating and electric bills, and others will even offer free weatherization of your home.
